Torey originally worked in Geneva studying the wine industry, then came to this lab from 1998 until 2001. Here he worked on creating a nonpolar deletion of the sigma B gene. The title of his thesis was “Alternative transcription factor sigma B in foodborne bacteria: sigma B in Listeria monocytogenes and a search for homologous genes in industrially important lactic acid bacteria”.
